Surviving Unemployment

Here is a list of things you need to handle in addition to finding a JOB!

The list includes: (click on each item for its resources)

  • Filing for Unemployment Benefits
  • Arranging for Health insurance
  • Arranging for Life insurance (if you have dependents)
  • Deciding what to do with any SAVINGS PLANS such as a 401(k)
  • Deciding what to do about any PENSION PLAN resources
  • Managing your Credit - including credit cards and any mortgage or car loans or leases
  • Developing a BUDGET (a Spending Plan)
  • CUTTING EXPENSES for medicines, clothing, insurance, credit, your pet's meds, travel wherever possible
  • Replace some Resources previously provided by your employer - examples include: a computer, publications like the Wall Street Journal
  • Recognizing that your new full-time job is FINDING A JOB and treating it like the most critical thing you have to do on a daily basis
